Ludhiana, September 13, 2022: Talent has no expiry date and age is just a number for 254 citizens of Ludhiana above 40 who have been competing in Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan being organized by Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
As many as 167 male and 27 females are exhibiting their sporting skills in the Badminton game during the district level sporting competitions which were kick-started on Monday in local Guru Nanak Stadium. Moreover, 56 persons above 50 males and six females are part taking in table-tennis and lawn tennis. Four participants will be showing their talent in para-games.
Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik while sharing further details, said that it was interesting to notice that people above than 40 had evinced interest in the Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan. She said that earlier such people used to participate in the competitions organized by local associations or even they used to take part in massive numbers during marathons organized by district administration in the past.
Malik said that Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan would give them a chance to revive their sense of competitiveness besides keeping them physically and mentally fit and would infuse sense of freshness into them. She said that they had qualified for district level competitions after winning the matches in block level events. She also stressed upon them to imbibe liking for sports among their kids so that they can bring laurels for the country by bagging medals in the Olympics and other international sporting events.
District Sports Officer Ravinder Singh said that state government had decided to include the citizen under these categories, to create a sporting environment in every nook and corner of the state as they will ultimately become ambassadors of games in their localities. He said that district administration had made adequate arrangements for the players participating in the games.
