Term “Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan” as a mission for giving wings to young sportspersons and to revive sports culture
15000 players to showcase their talent in 22 games till September 22
Ludhiana, September 12, 2022: MLAs Daljit Singh Grewal and Ashok Parashar Pappi on Monday inaugurated district-level sporting competitions being organized under 'Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan’ in the state.
After inaugurating the games at Guru Nanak Stadium, here today, MLAs Daljit Singh Grewal and Ashok Parashar Pappi called it a mission to revive the sports culture and give wings to the new athletes in Punjab. They said that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was committed to discovering and promoting young talents through Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan. They said that when the games would be over on October 21, Punjab will have new sports champions, who will make the country proud by winning medals in Olympics and other international events.
MLAs said that the AAP government had also been giving top-most priority to develop state-of-the-art sports infrastructure, ensuring the best training, coaches, and nutrient-rich diet besides a job to the players so that they could perform better in the games and bring the laurels to the state. They said that these games would be held every year in Punjab and this was just the beginning of a new era in the field of sports. They also blamed previous governments for ignoring the sports and players.
A total of 15000 players are participating in 22 different games to be held till October 21.
District Sports Officer Ravinder Singh said that Volleyball, Athletics, Football, Kabaddi (National style), Kho Kho, and Wrestling competitions were held at the block level. Apart from these sports, there are six age groups at the district level: Handball, Softball, Judo, Roller Skating, Gatka, Kick Boxing, Hockey, Netball, Badminton, Basketball, Power Lifting, Lawn Tennis, Wrestling, Swimming, Boxing, Table Tennis, and Weightlifting. There are Under 14, Under 17, Under 21, 21-40 years, 40-50 years, and above 50 years. Para sportsmen competitions would also be held. In 41-50 years and above 50 years age group competition of Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, and Athletics will be held. Certificates will be awarded to the winners of these categories.
He said that after this, the state-level competitions of the district winners will be held from October 10 to 21. A total of Rs. 6 Cr worth of prizes will be distributed to the winners at the state level. Rs. 10,000 will be given to the first position winner, Rs. 7,000 for the second, and Rs. 5,000 for third place winners.
