Lt. Gen. Kanwaljeet Singh Dhillon, fondly known as Tiny Dhillon shared that he has led a life marked by extraordinary challenges which required courage, resilience, and dedication to the nation. He was raised at his maternal home as he lost his mother at a very young age. He drew inspiration from his mother known as “Sher Maar Maa” for her bravery till her last breath. Tiny Dhillon’s military career, spanning over four decades, has been defined by intense combat situations in Jammu and Kashmir, where he witnessed the loss of comrades and civilians. Despite these challenges, he rose through the ranks, joining the army through the National Defence Academy (NDA) and becoming one of the most respected officers in the Indian Army. Throughout his journey, Tiny has been inspired by Netaji Subash Chandra Bose and has spoken about the importance of work-life balance, crediting his wife for her unwavering support said the prolific writer, who penned an excellent book named “Kitne Ghazi Gaye, Kitne Ghazi Aaye”, while sharing his experiences and insights with the world. Tiny's philosophy on life is simple yet profound: "If you carry the baggage of yesterday, you will not be able to stand straight and move forward." With no regrets in life, he continues to inspire generations with his remarkable story of grit, determination, and service to the nation.
His life story led to many managerial lessons for young budding managers of UIAMS. Students got to know about leadership styles and traits, team-work, how to face difficult situations, decisions making, multi-tasking, focus, continuous working, work-life balance, commitment, punctuality a lot more.
Students felt that the talk ignited their thoughts and adoption of these lessons will help them in emerging as strong, committed and focused citizens in all the spheres wherever they serve the nation.
