KMV celebrates 200th anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati with a national seminar

Jalandhar, February 29, 2024: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) in order to commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, organised a one-day national seminar on Yugpurush Swami Dayanand Saraswati ke Aadarshon ka Pratham Saakaar Roop: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya.  

On this occasion, Chander Mohan, President, Arya Shiksha Mandal was the Chief Guest and Prof. Sudhir Kumar, Dean, School of Sanskrit & Indic Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi was present as the keynote speaker. 

On this occasion, Alok Sondhi, General Secretary, KMV Management Committee was the presiding dignitary for the today’s function. Dhruv Mittal, Treasurer, KMV Management Committee, Sushila Bhagat, Member, KMV Management Committee, Dr Satpal Gupta, Member, KMV Management Committee, Dr Kamal Gupta, Member, KMV Management Committee, Kundan Lal Aggarwal and Jyoti Saggi graced the occasion. 

The program commenced with the lighting of the lamp. 

Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi welcomed all the guests and introduced them to the shared social resolutions and ideals of Arya Samaj and Kanya Maha Vidyalaya. Through a power point presentation, she presented the struggle, patriotism and latest academic achievements of KMV- the first embodiment of the ideals and inspirations of Dayanand Saraswati ji. She averred that following the ideals of Swami ji, KMV since its inception in 1886 has been providing world class education to the students and is also contributing significantly in the progress of the nation. 

In his address, the keynote speaker of the seminar, Sudhir Kumar threw detailed light on the revolutionary role of Arya Samaj in spreading the spirit of revolution in the subjugated and conservative Indian society. He eradicated the baseless misconceptions about the Vedic culture and its importance. He also said that KMV has been following the principles of Arya Samaj since its inception by bringing out revolutionary changes in the field of women education. 

Chief Guest Chander Mohan said that the inspiration and guidance of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati is a strong foundation for the inception of KMV and New India. Referring to the positive and powerful impact of the ideas of Arya Samaj on the younger generation in the freedom struggle, he said that the founders of KMV also contributed to the revival of the nation and society by adopting the ideals laid down by them at that time. He said that even today Kanya Maha Vidyalaya is continuously preparing itself for the multifaceted contemporary challenges. 

Alok Sondhi while throwing extensive light on the life and social philosophy of Arya Samaj and Dayanand Saraswati ji, said that it was the deep influence of their thoughts that Lala Devraj started promoting girls' education at the young age of 22. He became ready to take up the responsibility of spreading the message and proved his resolve. 

Sushila Bhagat also inspired the students by highlighting the importance of rules and discipline in life as taught by Arya Samaj. 

Dhruv Mittal in his address said that to build a healthy personality and society, there is a need for a balanced combination of values and science, ancient and modern. He expressed his gratitude to all the distinguished guests for their presence and to the KMV for the successful organisation of this seminar. 

It is pertinent to mention that a book was also released published by KMV on the influence of Arya Samaj on the first ever institution of women education- Kanya Maha Vidyalaya. 

Principal lauded the efforts of the whole organising committee for successfully organising the seminar.
