KMV empathy corner providing selfless service to humanity
KMV had started the empathy corner outside the college gate
Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya has been actively involved in various philanthropic activities for the upliftment of different sections of the society during its journey of 136 years. In this regard the college has been actively involved in various social outreach activities like adoption of schools, literacy drive programs, running free vocational training courses for the girls of economically weaker sections of the society.
Carrying forward this mission, KMV had started the Empathy Corner outside the college gate. The main motive was to inculcate the sentiments of empathy towards the under privileged among the students through donation of clothes, shoes, utensils & toys etc. Following the Indian tradition of 'Gupt Daan Maha Daan' the students don't get to know who are the beneficiaries of the things donated by them taking away any sentiment of pride in them. All the departments, faculty and students have worked enthusiastically to make it a success. Each department of the college with their student volunteers take turns to run the corner. This time it was the turn of Department of History. This initiative of the college has been appreciated by the residents of the area. The labor, rickshaw pullers and other needy people flock to the empathy corner every day.
Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of Co-ordinator of social extension Dr. Monica Sharma & Dr Gurjot, Head, Department of History for this philanthropist initiative. She averred that the vision of K.M.V. is value-based nurturing of the students and activities of this nature play a pivotal role in evolving the students personality and making them valuable citizens by dint of their ethical behaviour. She further maintained that in the COVID times it is all the more important, where we will all have to take up the responsibility of helping the needy without generating a sense of pride of giving which is in sync with the vision of KMV.
