KMV hosts Fem Fest to focus on Women Empowerment: Challenges and Prospects

Jalandhar, September 25, 2024: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) P.G. Department of Economics organized Fem Fest to focus on women empowerment challenges and prospects. 

The spectrum of events- Panel discussion, Choreography, Rangoli-making, Poetical recitation and Group Dance were organized during the fest. The Students of B.Sc.(Economics), M.Sc.(Economics), B.A., B.Com (Honours) and  BBA  participated with great zeal and fervor. The event commenced with floral felicitation of the chief guest Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi. The first event of the day was the panel discussion. The panellists were the students of M.Sc. (Economics) and M.A. (Economics) where Tanvi from M.Sc. (Economics) played the role of moderator in panel discussion and others were the panel members. The panel members discussed the issues and challenges of women like domestic violence, dowry system, sexual harassment and also the role of social media in aggravating the women problems. The panellists also discussed on how to tackle with these problems by empowering and boost women’s confidence through professional development, leadership opportunities; and how to propel women leaders into decision-making roles. The panel members also highlighted the role of judicial system and police authorities in solving the problems and issues of women, punishing the culprit and providing justice to women. Tanvi from M.Sc. Economics bagged first position in the panel discussion. The second event was the choreography on women empowerment and challenges. Five choreographies were displayed on stage by students. The choreographies were titled as ‘Chupi Todo’ from B.A. / B.Sc.(Economics) Semester V, ‘Nari shakti’ from B.A./ B.Sc. (Economics) Semester III, ‘Women Empowerment through Education’ from B.Com. Semester I and ‘Duhai Hai’ from BBA Semester I. All these choreography highlighted the women issues and their empowerment. One choreography was on ‘Save Trees’ showcased by students of B.A./ B.Sc. (Economics) Semester I. The event served as a testament to the college’s emphasis on practical learning, providing a real-world platform for students to unveil their creativity. Forty eight students participated in this event. The choreography ‘Chupi Todo’ from B.A. / B.Sc. (Economics) Semester V bagged first positions respectively and Nari shakti’ from B.A./ B.Sc. (Economics) Semester III bagged second position. Twenty three students participated in the Rangoli-making competition which showecased their creative skills using different colours to depict the challenges of women in present era. The poem by Preeti mesmerised the audience with her poetical skills. 

Principal Prof Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi appreciated the talent of the students which they showcased through their creativity, projection, and good articulation on the stage. She motivated the students to keep on participating in such events along with their studies, which is very important to inculcate confidence among today’s young generation. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Mrs. Amarpreet Khurana, Head of the PG Department of Economics and the whole faculty for successfully organizing the event.
