KMV hosts renowned physicist Padam Shree Prof. H.C. Verma during an inspiring and experimental workshop on physics

Jalandhar, January 18, 2025: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) had a proud privilege to host renowned Indian experimental physicist, author and Padma Shri awardee Prof. Harish Chandra Verma, popularly known as HCV, during an inspiring and interactive experimental physics workshop.

Prof. Verma, an emeritus professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-Kanpur), is highly regarded for his significant contributions to physics education and his approachable teaching methods. The workshop saw the enthusiastic participation of more than 500 students, including those from KMV and nearby schools, eager to learn about the wonders of physics. Prof. Verma during the workshop showcased a variety of live demonstrations, effectively illustrating complex concepts in physics and making them easily understandable for the students.

Prof. Verma also emphasized upon the importance of observation, critical thinking and inquiry-based learning in developing a deeper understanding of physics. His ability to simplify intricate theories into relatable experiments made the subject highly engaging for the students, many of whom expressed their newfound excitement about the subject. During the workshop, the students were able to ask questions, actively participate in the experiments, and witness scientific principles come to life in real-time. Following the workshop, the students participated in an exciting experimental video quiz show named the LEPTON (Learning Physics through Nature) Program was organised. The quiz allowed students to test their newfound knowledge in a fun and competitive environment. The event also coincided with the celebration of International Quantum Year, during which an expert talk on quantum networks was also delivered, offering valuable insights into this cutting-edge field of research.

Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi commended the efforts of Prof. HC Verma and expressed her appreciation for his dedication to making science, particularly physics, accessible and engaging for students. She also emphasized the importance of fostering a scientific mindset and critical thinking among young learners. She averred that this enriching session not only celebrated the beauty of physics but also highlighted the importance of interactive learning and its potential to inspire the next generation of scientists and thinkers. Principal lauded the efforts of P.G. Department of Physics for taking such brilliant initiatives.
