Jalandhar, December 26, 2024: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous), a trailblazing institution with a legacy of excellence, continues to set an inspiring example through its dynamic environmental initiatives both within its campus and across the city. 

Committed to fostering sustainability and environmental responsibility, KMV has undertaken a series of initiatives towards environmental conservation and cleanliness and has contributed to make Jalandhar city clean and green. Among the various commendable initiatives is the installation of a Statue of Sustainability near Skylark Chowk. Crafted entirely by the creative hands of KMV students, the statue stands as a testament to the institution’s commitment to environmental consciousness and fostering empowerment through education. Constructed using innovative techniques and repurposed waste materials, the statue embodies the spirit of sustainability which has been much appreciated by the city residents. KMV has undertaken numerous city-wide environmental initiatives to create awareness among the citizens. KMV students and staff have actively participated in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, conducting regular cleanliness campaigns in public areas & parks in the city. Moreover, various plantation and cleanliness drives are also organised in the villages & schools adopted by KMV, where the students regularly visits and plant trees and also carry out awareness & cleanliness drives. Special emphasis is placed on planting native and medicinal plants. Moreover, special drive for plastic waste collection was also conducted by KMVs NCC department in collaboration with Government of India. KMV regularly organises workshops, seminars, and campaigns to sensitise students and staff about sustainable practices. The college regularly organises environment awareness rallies to highlight pressing environmental issues such as pollution control, water conservation and climate change. The solar energy system powers a substantial portion of the campus’s energy needs. The college has implemented a comprehensive waste segregation and composting system. Organic waste is processed into compost for use in the campus gardens, promoting a zero-waste culture. Under its “Go Green Drive,” KMV has planted over 500 trees and shrubs, adding to the beauty of the campus. Recognising all these efforts, KMV has been bestowed with Green Campus Awards in recognition of its exemplary efforts and commitment towards environmental sustainability. 

Speaking about these initiatives, Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that at KMV, we believe that education is not just about academics but also about nurturing responsible citizens who care for the environment. Our environmental initiatives reflect our unwavering commitment to sustainability and community welfare. She further maintained that KMV will continue serving the society by making endeavours towards greener and cleaner city with full commitment and dedication.
