KMV organises guest lecture on functional foods: fundamentals and future perspectives
Jalandhar, March 5, 2022: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organised a guest lecture on the topic “Functional Foods: Fundamentals and Future Perspectives”.
The lecture was organised by Department of Food Science Quality Control and Microbiology. The Guest Speaker for the session was Dr. Mamta Thakur, Assistant Professor, Department of Food Technology, ITM University, Gwalior.
In the beginning Dr. Mamta Thakur gave the introduction on Functional Foods, their properties and mechanisms including Dietary Fibres, Phytochemical, Probiotics, Prebiotic, etc and later she explained their future perspectives. She also highlighted the high demand of Functional Foods in our day-to-day life. She explained that how we can improve our immunity by consuming Functional Foods and how food can act as medicine for our better health as functional foods are normal food enhanced with a specific ingredient or mixture of ingredients that provide unique health benefits.
Dr. Mamta Thakur highlighted various aspects of functional food and their increasing demand in food market by giving various examples through powerpoint presentation.
After the session, various questions of the students were satisfactorily answered by Dr Thakur.
Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi expressed her gratitude to the speaker for imparting such an important knowledge to the students on a very pertaining topic of functional food. She lauded the efforts of Sadhna Tandon, Dean, Life Sciences and other faculty members for successfully organising the lecture.
