KMV organises Job Readiness Value Added Program for students

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) in order to make students globally employable, runs Job Readiness Course in association with Industry Professionals wherein the students of Semester Fifth of undergraduate degree are trained on various modules ranging from Resume Building to Mock Interviews. The objective of this 30 hours Value Added Course is to enhance students’ professional communication skills and job readiness.

Jalandhar, November 4, 2024: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) in order to make students globally employable, runs Job Readiness Course in association with Industry Professionals wherein the students of Semester Fifth of undergraduate degree are trained on various modules ranging from Resume Building to Mock Interviews. The objective of this 30 hours Value Added Course is to enhance students’ professional communication skills and job readiness. 

Dr. Suman Khurana, Dean, Placement Cell steered the Program with Sessions on Resume Building/Cover Letter and Positive Attitude, where she made the students understand the two important documents - Resume and Cover Letter. She explained Resume Building very thoroughly and the purpose of Cover Letter. She also shared some samples with the students, and explained how to fine tune the Resume and how to write a professional Cover Letter. The next session was conducted by Dr. Sabina Batra.   She guided the students on the procedure to be followed to access various Online Job Portals like Indeed, Sarkari Naukri.com, Free Job Alert.com, Axis Bank and Monsterindia.com. She reiterated the fact that there is no scarcity of jobs in India if the students are willing and have requisite skills and qualification for the aspired jobs. 

The next session was conducted by Dr. Rashmi Bindra to apprise the students on interview skills. She talked on various aspects of interview process and questions normally asked in the interviews. Students were explained the importance of searching the organisation and its work culture before appearing for an interview. She gave deep insights of mistakes which candidates make while attending interviews and explained about overcoming those mistakes. 

Dr. Natasha Sharma took the session on Effective Presentation Skills & elaborated the Four P’s of effective presentation – Plan, Prepare, Practice and Present where Planning means audience and objective. Preparation involves Style, visual aids, voice and appearance. After that comes Practice or rehearsal, and finally present – Use movements, eye Contact, gestures etc. Dr. Jeeta Sarkar - HR JIM, Noida during her session explained LinkedIn platform very eloquently. She highlighted that LinkedIn is designed specifically for professional networking. She enlightened that 93% recruiters are using LinkedIn to find their future employees, and explained creation of LinkedIn profile in detail starting from Profile Picture and going into every minute detail with suitable examples. She also stressed on Profile Priorities and Participation in Groups. The next Session was taken by Mrs. Anukiran Khanna on E-mail Etiquette and Telephonic Interview. Participants were instructed on how to structure professional e-mails, the importance of clear subject lines, formal tone, and common mistakes to avoid.  The session also provided guidance on how to effectively handle telephonic interviews  emphasising active listening, clear communication, and maintaining confidence. Ninth session was devoted for Mock Interviews wherein some groups were formed. Students were given certain questions that the leader had to answer after discussion in the respective groups, and audience were also invited to give better answers of the same questions.  Resource Persons – Dr Jeeta Sarkar and Dr. Suman Khurana helped the students with frequently asked questions. They acquainted the students with the basic requirements of Group Discussion and Mock Interviews, and guided the students through tips and techniques that would prove to be beneficial for them in their future endeavours. 

Principal Prof. Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that KMV’s focus has always been on producing graduates who not only excel academically but also thrive in their professional journeys. The introduction of job readiness program aligns with our vision to empower students with the skills required to succeed in the dynamic global workplace. She further maintained that KMV’s commitment to holistic education and job readiness is poised to make a significant impact on the future careers of its students, setting a new standard for excellence in higher education.
