KMV organises two-day e- workshop on emerging trends of botanical studies
More than 80 students from B. Sc. Medical and M. Sc. Botany attended this workshop
Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised two day E-workshop on the topic ‘Emerging trends of Botanical studies’. The workshop was organised by the PG Department of Botany. More than 80 students from B. Sc. Medical and M. Sc. Botany attended this workshop.
Dr. Rajinder Kaur and Dr. Saroj Arora from Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar were the resource person for the workshop. Dr. Rajinder Kaur delivered lecture on topic ’Ex-situ conservation of Medicinal plants: Virtual tour to Botanical Garden of GNDU’. She explained very interestingly the various methods of medicinal plants conservation as seed banks, cryopreservation of germ plasm, sacred groves, Arboretum and tissue culture technology. She made virtual visit to the Botanical Garden of GNDU, Amritsar where she explained the different components of garden like Herbal garden, Green House, Lily pool, Fern house, Screen house etc. At the last she described various teaching and learning activities which can be performed in Botanical Garden. Dr. Saroj Arora delivered lecture on the topic ‘Herbal formulation in Hair, skin and oral care: current challenges in upgradation and modernisation’. She explained the herbal medicines and herbal formulations. Further, she gave the various uses of herbal cosmetics for skin, hair, teeth and mouth. On the second day of Workshop, Dr. Saroj Arora made a virtual tour to the facilities offered by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar to students and research scholars. She discussed the recent techniques and instruments available in different laboratories. Among these are LCMS - Micro TF, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, Scanning Electron Microscopes etc.
During the conclusion, the queries of the students were satisfactorily answered by Dr. Arora. Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that this type of activities enhance the practical knowledge of the students and also motivates them to pursue research in their subject. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of the PG Department of Botany for organising this workshop.
