KMV organises virtual interaction with scientists of NIPGR New Delhi under DBT Star College Status
It was an intellectual and exciting experience for all the participants
Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous institution, Seat of Women Empowerment with Top National and State Rankings by India Today Survey of Best Colleges 2020 (various categories) & Outlook Magazine organized a virtual interaction with the scientists of National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi under DBT Star College Status through Science Setu Program. It was a unique opportunity for science students at undergraduate level to get an exposure to high-level research. More than 50 undergraduate science students attended this virtual program with full zeal & enthusiasm.
Dr. Gitanjali Yadav, Scientist V, NIPGR was the resource person for this program. Dr Yadav started her lecture by encouraging the students to learn and manage data science. She also discussed about the ability of plants to communicate with their environment and translate this information into active movement of their organs. She told that plants send chemical signals to communicate with their environment. She stressed on the isoprenoids which are the most diverse amongst plant chemicals. She focused on the collection of emission profiles, measuring the terpenomes, emission data analysis and building the dictionaries of these chemical compounds. She concluded her lecture discussing about not to cultivate invasive species as it is destroying livelihood in India. She also told the students about the summer research fellowship and encouraged the undergraduate and postgraduate students to participate in such kind of program.
Dr. Pinky Aggarwal, Scientist, NIPGR attended the queries of the students and also gave Vote of Thanks.
Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that it was an intellectual and exciting experience for all the participants. She further maintained that KMV always strive to impart quality based science education to the students and always keep on organising such meaningful activities for the betterment of the students.
