KMV organises workshop on Single Use Plastic Must Go and Swag of India: Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan

Jalandhar, September 7, 2024: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organised a workshop on two topics “Single Use Plastic Must Go" and "Swag of India: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan".
The workshop was organised under a research project granted by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to Dr. Pardeep Arora (PI) and Dr. Harpreet Kaur (Co-PI) the faculty of KMV on the topic Developing Low Cost Teaching Aids in Promoting Sustainable Waste Management: Swachh Bharat Paradigms.
Dr. Navneet Bhullar participated as a keynote speaker in this workshop.She is a global health doctor and writer who has made the US her home since 1997 but and is the founder of APAAR in 2014. Wing Commander Puneet Sharma (retd.) participated through online medium as keynote speaker in the second session of this workshop.
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi during her address, welcomed all the guests and made them aware of the need and importance of waste management to achieve the objective of Swachh Bharat. Along with this, she also inspired all the youth to strengthen the resolve for a clean India as well as a new emerging India.
During the session, Dr. Navneet Bhullar delivered an insightful presentation focused on the imperative of rejecting single-use plastics. Her discourse emphasized the environmental ramifications associated with the widespread use of these materials, highlighting the urgent need for collective action to mitigate their impact. Through a series of compelling visuals and data-driven arguments, she effectively conveyed the message that the reduction of single-use plastics is not merely a personal choice but a societal responsibility.
In addition to her presentation, Dr. Bhullar shared her experiences in organising protests aimed at raising awareness about the detrimental effects of single-use plastics.
Following the presentation delivered by Dr. Navneet Bhullar, Wing Commander Puneet Sharma took the opportunity to share his journey in establishing the initiative known as Swachh Pune Swachh Bharat. He elaborated on the motivations that drove him to become the founder of this significant campaign, emphasising the importance of cleanliness and sanitation in urban environments. His insights provided a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and triumphs encountered during the inception of the initiative. Wing Commander Puneet Sharma detailed the various strategies and activities that were implemented as part of the Swachh Pune Swachh Bharat campaign. He highlighted the collaborative efforts made with local communities, government bodies, and various stakeholders to promote awareness and encourage participation in cleanliness drives. The campaign not only aimed to enhance the physical environment of Pune but also sought to instill a sense of responsibility among citizens regarding waste management and public hygiene.
It is pertinent to mention that more than 500 students from Sanskriiti K.M.V School participated in this workshop with full zeal and enthusiasm.
Principal lauded the efforts of Dr. Pardeep Arora, Head, Department of AI & Data Science, Dr Harpreet Kaur, Head, P. G. Department of Fashion Designing, Research Associate Harleen and the whole organising committee for successfully organising the workshop.
