Jalandhar, August 16, 2024:  Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) launched an awareness campaign to strongly condemn the horrific rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata, West Bengal. 

A rally was also organised under the campaign, which witnessed the participation of students, faculty members and staff was a powerful demonstration of KMV’s commitment to fighting against the increasing instances of gender-based violence in the country. Carrying placards and chanting slogans titled Stop Crimes Against Women, the participants urged the public and authorities to take immediate and stringent action against the perpetrators of such heinous crimes. The rally aimed to not only express solidarity with the victim's family but also to raise awareness among the masses about the urgent need to combat sexual violence and ensure safety for all women. As part of its broader initiative to address this critical issue, KMV has launched a comprehensive campaign against rape crimes. The campaign focuses on educating young minds about gender equality. Workshops, seminars, and self- defence classes have been organised on the campus to empower students and equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary to protect themselves and others. Adding to the momentum of the campaign, Radio VOW (Voice of Women), the online radio channel run by KMV, has dedicated a series of programs to this cause. Radio VOW is airing discussions and programmes to shed light on the complexities of sexual violence and the legal avenues available for victims. 

Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that KMV stands firm in its resolve to fight against rape and sexual violence. Through this rally and our ongoing campaign, we aim to empower our students and the community to take a stand against these injustices. We hope that our efforts will inspire others to join us in creating a society where women feel safe and respected. She further maintained that these kind of awareness events highlights KMV’s initiatives to combat rape and promote gender safety, emphasising the institution’s proactive role in community awareness and education.
