KMV unveils statue of sustainability and empowerment at island near Skylark Chowk

Jalandhar, December 18, 2023: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) proudly inaugurated a unique symbol of sustainability and empowerment with the unveiling of a striking statue at island near Skylark Chowk. Crafted entirely by the creative hands of KMV students, the statue stands as a testament to the institution’s commitment to environmental consciousness and fostering empowerment through education. Constructed using innovative techniques and repurposed waste materials, the statue embodies the spirit of sustainability, encouraging the community to rethink and repurpose materials that often end up as environmental hazards. The P. G. Department of Fashion Designing and P. G. Department of Fine arts collaborated to build this statue out of e-waste, Eco-bricks made from plastic bottles, textile waste, sanitary waste, discarded stationery, single use plastic, bottle caps, broken glass bottles etc. KMV’s initiative to engage students in this eco-friendly project not only promotes environmental responsibility but also serves as a platform for nurturing creativity and resourcefulness. 

The chief guest for the unveiling ceremony was Puneet Sharma, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation. 

Chander Mohan, President, Arya Shiksha Mandal, Alok Sondhi, General Secretary, KMV Managing Committee, Dr Sushma Chawla, Vice President, KMV Managing Committee, Dr Satpal Gupta, Member, KMV Managing Committee and other dignitaries also graced the occasion. 

Speaking on the occasion, Puneet Sharma said that this initiative showcased KMV’s dedication to instilling values of sustainability and empowerment in the hearts of the  citizens, preparing them to be responsible global citizens. Sh. Chander Mohan said that the statue now stands as a visual representation of KMV’s commitment to combining education, creativity, and environmental consciousness. As the community admires this striking piece of art, it is hoped that it will inspire others to embrace sustainable practices and contribute to the empowerment of future generations. 

Principal Prof Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that KMV wants to showcase to the society how waste which is getting thrown in landfills can be  creatively rescued and converted to aesthetic expressions through this statue and would serve as a symbol of inspiration for the younger generation to understand its responsibility towards the environment. Principal lauded the efforts of the team lead by Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Yogeshwar Hans, Dr. Pradeep Arora Navpreet Kaur, Harleen, Jotbinder, Jagmohan and students of Fashion Designing and Fine Arts Department for this creative path breaking work which will serve to showcase KMV’s visionary initiative to the society.
