Department of Sanskrit, Panjab University, Chandigarh concluded its seven-day workshop on Vedic mantra recitation ‘Sasvara-Mantrapatha-Vidhi’ today on 28.09.23 to train participants in traditional Vedic mantra recitation.
Chandigarh, September 28, 2023: Department of Sanskrit, Panjab University, Chandigarh concluded its seven-day workshop on Vedic mantra recitation ‘Sasvara-Mantrapatha-Vidhi’ today on 28.09.23 to train participants in traditional Vedic mantra recitation. In this workshop, teachers, research scholars and students learned the traditional and authentic method of reciting Vedic mantras.
Teacher at the department and instructor of the workshop Mr. Vijay Bharadwaj, who has holds the title ‘Vedalankar’ from a traditional Gurukul, expressed satisfaction at the results achieved in the week-long workshop. He said, “it is through the system of svaras that Vedas have been preserved without the loss or addition of even a single syllable.” He stated that the main purpose behind this workshop was that the participants were to be made aware and appreciative of the traditional Vedic svara system.
Academic incharge of the department Prof. V. K. Alankar said, “the knowledge of svaras or intonation is prerequisite to knowing the correct meaning of Vedic words and verses.” Prof. added that the importance of intonation is not only in Vedic language, but also in regular speech.
