Chandigarh, November 30, 2018: The ICSSR North- Western Regional Centre, Panjab University. Chandigarh organised a
special lecture of His Excellency, Mr.Sin Bongkil, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, here today on "Korea's Development as well as Korea-India Bilateral Relations".

Professor Sanjay Kaushik, Honorary Director, ICSSR North-Western Regional Centre welcomed and introduced the guest speaker as Honorary Director and on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, P.U.Chandigarh. While welcoming him, Professor Sanjay Kaushik shared about His Excellency that he has been an envoy of the Republic of Korea to different countries including the United Nations and visiting Professor of Yonsei University, Korea. He elaborated the Indo-Korea cordial relations in respect of investment specially in the electronics and automobile industry and desired to explore more and more fields for mutual investments in the era of globalization. He also brought out the brief of ICSSR programmes to promote the social science research in the region and asked to come forward to avail of the facilities of the ICSSR.

His Excellency, while delivering his speech thanked the faculty members being present. He stated that during the last ten years the economy of China has increased manifold in different ways to which the Korea was a strong partner. Taking into account the development pace of India, he showed satisfaction since 1990's when India introduced 'New Economic Policy', which promoted the Republic of Korea to extend bilateral relations and it worked well. He expressed that India is a big market and everyone wants to be a close partner in it, while Korea has started from scratches after a long war.

He appreciated the role of India in helping to restore peace. The India and Korea has deep rooted historical and cultural bonds. He cited that King Kim Su Ru, married a Princess of Ayodhya in 48 AD. Elaborating the cultural relations with India he stated that the First Lady of Korea visited Ayodhya on the eve of Diwali Festival this year and put forth that 1300 Korean words of languages are same in different languages spoken in India. In golden age of Asia, the republic of Korea was a lamp bearer which needs illumination again. Indo-Korea trade has crossed 20 billion and the electronic giant LG, Samsung and automobile giant Hyundai and KIA have brought laurels to the both countries in respect of customer satisfaction. He expressed his satisfaction in respect of Indian players like Mahindra & Mahindra, TATA, State Bank of India, I.T. and Indian Overseas Bank providing the best services to the Korean public. He cited that President of Korea is of the view that no country can survive with arms instead preferred the convergence of Korea and India relations as New Southern Policy Act and East policy.

Dr. Rattan Singh, CVO and Head, UILS, P.U. Chandigarh stressed the need to explore the more areas for investments and to strengthen the Indo-Korea relations.

Professor Karamjit Singh, Registrar, P.U. Chandigarh while delivering his presidential address stated that bilateral relations are advantageous for both countries and expressed that there is a lot of scope for collaboration between the two countries. He showed the satisfaction for the services being provided by the Korean companies. He said that we the Indians are emotional while the Koreans are Pragmatic and stressed on human capital. He thanked the dignitaries and audience on behalf of the P.U. & ICSSR Chandigarh.
