KVK BATHINDA ORGANIZES TRAINING CAMP ON INTEGRATED PEST AND DISEASE MANAGEMENT IN COTTON
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bathinda organized an off-campus one-day training program on 'Integrated pest and disease management in cotton' at village-Thamangarh, block- Maur of the district on 20.07.2023 in association with State Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Ludhiana, July 20, 2023: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bathinda organized an off-campus one-day training program on 'Integrated pest and disease management in cotton' at village-Thamangarh, block- Maur of the district on 20.07.2023 in association with State Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Dr Gurdeep Singh, Deputy Director (Trg.), spoke on safe and judicious use of agro-chemicals. He stressed upon adopting eco-friendly pest management techniques. He motivated them to go for good agricultural practices for cotton cultivation. He discussed about various extension activities and efforts made by the university and the KVK for betterment of the farming community of the district. He also made the farmers aware of vocational/ skill development training courses being run at KVK Bathinda.
Dr Vinay Singh, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), KVK Bathinda made the farmers aware of identification of pests and natural enemies in field. Symptoms of insect-pest attack and diseases were also shown using pictures/ photos and flash cards. Besides this, early detection and monitoring methods were also taught to them. Further, they were made aware of scientific and recommended methods of pest management in cotton.
Dr Sarvpriya Singh, Assistant Professor (Fruit Science), delivered a lecture on nutritious value of vegetables and fruits. He motivated the participant to grow locally adapted and underutilized vegetables and fruits. Further, he spoke on role and importance of value addition and processing of fruits and vegetables.
Officials from the State Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare spoke on various steps being taken up by the department for timely management of pink bollworm and whitefly in cotton. In the end, progressive farmers of the village shared their experiences. A field visit was also arranged for the farmers where they were taught on early detection, decision making for thresholds, identification and diagnosis of insect-pest problems.
