KVK Hoshiarpur organises Farmer Awareness Camp on Rodent Management at Village Simbli
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, Hoshiarpur, district level extension agency of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana organized a farmer awareness camp on rodent management on Wednesday at village Simbli.
Ludhiana, May 25, 2023: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, Hoshiarpur, district level extension agency of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana organized a farmer awareness camp on rodent management on Wednesday at village Simbli.
At the outset, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur extended a warm welcome to the experts and the farmers present on this occasion. He said that during last two years there has been heavy infestation of rodents in paddy and maize crops in the villages Dhamai, Simbli, Panam, Nazarpur, Chakk Guru of block Garhshankar and for their management, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, Hoshiarpur and Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare,
Garhshankar have been jointly organizing awareness camps in collaboration with Department of Zoology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Poison baits were prepared and were applied by the villagers and these were effective in rodent management. In continuation of the above campaign, this camp has been organized for further intensification of the efforts for the proper management of these rodents. On this occasion, Dr. Bons also emphasized on the need for conservation of natural resources, safeguarding of environment and judicious use of water and shared important tips regarding DSR in paddy and basmati.
The technical expert from Department of Zoology, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Dr. Neena Singla, Head & Principal Zoologist (Rodents), addressed the farmers and discussed in detail about the identification of rats, their damage symptoms, burrows and mechanical, cultural, biological and chemical methods of rodent control. She also demonstrated poison bait preparation with zinc phosphide rodenticide. Dr. Singla also stressed on the need for village level campaign for proper and effective management of rodents.
Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur guided the farmers regarding IPM in kharif crops and particularly about the management of fall armyworm in maize.
Dr. Gurinder Singh, Agriculture Development Officer, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Garhshankar shared various schemes of the department for the welfare of farmers and assured full support for this campaign and Sh. Kulwinder Sahni, Block Technology Manager, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Garhshankar discussed about the activities under ATMA scheme.
Progressive farmers of the area, Amarjit Singh, Sarpanch, village Simbli, Birinder Singh and Parminder Singh, village Simbli, Satnam Singh and Bahadar Singh, village Chakk Guru and officials from Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Garhshankar, Sunil Kumar, Agriculture Extension Officer, and Balraj Kumar, Agriculture Technology Manager were also present on this occasion.
Sale of mineral mixture, PAU fruitfly traps and technical literature was also facilitated for the benefit of the farmers on this occasion.
