KVK Kapurthala step out to backup contingency plan for flood affected area
Team of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kapurthala visited flood affected villages of Kapurthala and Sultanpur Lodhi blocks. Nearly 30 villages are partly submerged in water and most crops are under waterlogged conditions.
Ludhiana, July 21, 2023: Team of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kapurthala visited flood affected villages of Kapurthala and Sultanpur Lodhi blocks. Nearly 30 villages are partly submerged in water and most crops are under waterlogged conditions. Team of KVK scientists interacted with the farmers of affected areas and shared the contingency plan with them. This contingency plan has also been sent to different farmers whatsapp groups. Farmers were also facilitated by providing nursery of PR 126 produced at KVK farm where water table has already been receded.
Similarly, as per the instructions issued by Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, one acre nursery of PR 126 was sown at KVK farm. Dr Amit Salaria advised the farmers to prefer PR 126 and Pusa basmati 1509 seedlings under late transplanting situations. Moreover, farmers can also opt for sowing of fodder maize after the flood water recedes from the fields. The nursery sown now days will be ready for transplanting upto 10th August and rice/basmaticrop can be harvested before 15th November. Therefore, the succeeding wheat crop can be sown with happy seeder/super seeder without any delay.
Dr Amandeep Kaur, Asstt. Prof. (Veg. Sci.) advised the farmers to grow rainy season vegetables like okra, bottle gourd, bitter gourd, pumpkin variety Punjab Nawab and tomato variety Punjab Varkha Bahar-4, when water level comes down to normal level. She also told that nursery of tomato is also grown at KVK farm and will be provided free of cost to the needy farmers.
Dr Harinder Singh, Associate Director (Trg.) while interacting with farmers, ensured them that they will get timely help like technical guidance and inputs like nursery of PR 126 and vegetables like brinjal and tomato. He ensured to the farmers that in this difficult time KVK in collaboration with other allied departments work hardly by providing facilities at their doorstep for the benefit of the farming community.
