KVK ROPAR ORGANISE FARMERS SCIENTIST INTERACTION ON YELLOW RUST IN WHEAT

Ludhiana, January 11, 2017: A farmers scientist interaction on Yellow rust in wheat was organised on Tuesday at village Jandala, Block Anandpur sahib by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar. More than 60 progressive farmers were participated in this programme.

Dr.Jaswinder Singh Bhalla, HOD, Department of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana in his address, elaborated the importance of relationship between Punjab Agricultural University and farmers. He explained about whole functioning of university specially the importance of extension system of university. He informed the farmers about various kisan melas conducted by university and literature published by university. He advised the farmers to follow the recommended practices of PAU to fight against the problem of yellow rust in wheat.

Dr. Ramandeep Singh, Professor, School of business studies, advised the farmers to increase their income through value addition and new marketing strategies. He also shared his personal experience with the farmers and encourages the farmers to link with the KVK Ropar to take the benefits of latest technologies.

Dr. PPS Pannu, Sr. Plant Pathologist, Department of Plant Pahology, guided the farmers about yellow rust symptoms, favourable weather condition, disease cycle, primary inoculums, initial infection foci, proper identification of disease and timely management of yellow rust. He also stressed upon selection on disease resistant variety before sowing and seed treatment of various crops. Due to prevailing weather condition He advised the farmers to monitor their fields regularly to look for yellow rust symptoms and take timely control measures in order to check the spread of disease to other areas. Regarding this he advised the farmers to immediately inform KVK scientists.

Dr. Harinder Singh, Deputy Director Training, KVK, Ropar elaborated the KVK activities and said KVK Ropar committed to vocational trainings, transfer of technologies, on farm research and act as knowledge resource centre for the district farmers. He also explained about the different weeds in wheat crop and their proper management. he also informed that the efforts made by KVK, Ropar during this rabi season has rustled in increase in the area under yellow rust resistant varieties.

Dr. Ashok Kumar, AP, Plant Pathology, told the farmers about the various insects of rabi crops and their management. He urged the farmers to avoid indiscriminate use of pesticides and advised to sow recommended and resistant varieties against various diseases. He informed about the whats app group namely, “YRM Task force” to provide timely information on yellow rust initial infection foci and proper management.

Dr. Avtar Singh, AO, Anandpur sahib, informed about the availability of chemical on subsidy against yellow rust of wheat which will be made available to farmers as early as possible.

The farmers also raised queries and shared their experiences.
