KVK, SBS Nagar creates awareness on crop residue management
It’s time to look beyond the conventional malpractice of residue burning
Ludhiana: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Langroya, Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar organized an awareness programme on “Crop Residue Management” on March 2, 2021 under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University and ICAR-ATARI Zone-1, Ludhiana. A total of 50 students from Gurusewa College, SBS Nagar attended the programme.
Dr Gurpreet Singh Makkar, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, SBS Nagar said that the programme was organized to sensitize college youth about the hazards posed by the stubble burning and promising technologies for in-situ management of paddy residue. Dr Makkar added, “It’s time to look beyond the conventional malpractice of residue burning and adopt novel technology-based solutions to protect our environment, prevent loss of soil nutrients and conserve soil micro-organisms.” Curbing biomass burning will ensure significant economic, ecological and health benefits, he observed.
Dr Kirandeep, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), explained the latest farm machinery for the crop residue management and the role of KVK in popularizing the environmental friendly technology for in-situ residue management. She also briefed on the progress and achievements of CRM project in district SBS Nagar.
Dr Shikha Bathla, Assistant Professor (Home Science), organized a debate competition on the theme “Conventional and Modern Practices of Crop Residue Management.” She also shared useful tips with the students on healthy diet and fitness.
Dr Mandeep Kaur, Principal, Gurusewa College, lauded the active participation of students and multidimensional initiatives of KVK in serving the farming community.
