KVK Shimla bags third position among 69 KVK in Zonal workshop
The award was announced at the Annual Zonal Workshop of Zone -1
Nauni (Himachal Pradesh): The Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK) of district Shimla of Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni which is located at Rohru was adjudged third among all the KVK located in Zone 1. There are 69 KVKs located in Zone-1 which consists of Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. At the Zonal Level, the first position was bagged by KVK Kulgam while KVK Ropar stood second.
The award was announced at the Annual Zonal Workshop of Zone -1 organized by ICAR’s Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute(ATARI), Ludhiana. The workshop was organized virtually.
A presentation on the activities conducted by the KVK in the past year was given during the workshop by the KVK Programme Coordinator Dr. NS Kaith and was supported by the scientists Dr. Ibajanai Kurbah and Dr. Bandana. The KVK Shimla has taken many initiatives in the past several years to improve its outreach to the farmers. The initiatives of the introduction of coloured strains of apple for enhancing income in mid-hills under climate change scenario, crop diversification by introducing cultivation of dhingri and exotic vegetables and the publication of ‘Krishi Vaani’, a magazine of the Kendra along with extension activities for control of apple scab and other apple diseases are some of the important achievements of the KVK. The Kendra is also working towards doubling farmers' income and are promoting location-based crop diversification along with the development of entrepreneurs in bee-keeping and nursery production.
Dr. Parvinder Kaushal, Vice-Chancellor of the university congratulated the scientists and staff of KVK Shimla. He said that KVK has been doing great work in service of the farmers. Director Extension Education Dr. Divender Gupta and other officers of the university also congratulated the KVK team.
