'Labour Day': Admn teams encourage labourers to exercise their 'Right to Vote'

Ludhiana, May 1, 2024: Different teams of administration conducted voter awareness drives to sensitise labourers about their 'Right to Vote' on the occasion of 'Labour Day' on Wednesday.

Working on the directions of District Election Officer (DEO)-cum- Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sakshi Sawhney, teams conducted awareness drives in labour colonies, construction sites among other areas of the district. Ludhiana is known as the Industrial hub of the state and a large number of migrant labourers reside in the district.

The eligible voters/labourers were also urged to spread awareness among their colleagues/co-workers at work places etc, so that maximum participation of voters can be ensured during the Lok Sabha-2024 elections.

The eligible voters were also apprised about the voter registration process for the first time voters. The eligible first time voters can use 'Voter Helpline' mobile application and National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) for enrolling themselves as voters. The residents can also visit www.nvsp.in to register themselves as voters. Voter registration for Lok Sabha-2024 elections can be done till May 4, 2024.

Appreciating the efforts being put in by the field staff to encourage the voters, DEO Sakshi Sawhney said that a large number of voter awareness activities are being organised across the district under Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program to encourage the voters.

The aim of district administration is to ensure maximum participation during the Lok Sabha-2024 elections and to achieve the target of more than 70 per cent voter turnout during the Lok Sabha elections (Iss Baar, 70 Paar).

Meanwhile, DEO Sakshi Sawhney said that the district administration is committed to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the district and the residents should cast their vote without any fear and without coming under anyone's influence. She further said that every effort is being made to facilitate the voters at the polling stations on polling days (June 1).
