LAKHOWAL: Kissan Union to continue fight for farmers’ rights

Ferozepur, December 27, 2012: The Punjab Government is spending crores of rupees for the welfare, convenience and comforts of the people, said Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, Chairman, Mandi Board and Union Leader while inaugurating the big boat in Gajniwalal Block of Mamdot area on Indo-Pak border beyond for the convenience of the farmers working beyond in the fencing. On this occasion, he also inaugurated the road constructed from Gajniwala to BSF Post. 

Lakhowal said, since 2007, 14169 KMs roads in the state have been repaired by the Punjab Mandi Board at a cost of Rs.1,16,847 crores and construction of 6874 KMs new roads with Rs.96,695 croers have been completed besides incurring Rs.392 crores on the development of the mandis.  He further said, in 13 mandis of Punjab, Pack Houses are being constructed and the first of its kind has been started at Ludhiana .

Talking about the farmers, Lakowal said, during the last about four decades, the farmers are economical weak for not getting the reasonable price of their crops and the struggle by the Kissan Union, for the rights of the farmers would continue with the Punjab Government and would ensure that they get their due rights.

On this occasion, he was accompanied by Gursewan Singh Kaish Maan, Block Mamdot, Amrik Singh Murali, president, Bhupinder Singh Maheshri, Ajaib Singh Khara, Bachhitar Singh, and number of Akali leaders and farmers were present.
