DISTRICT ELECTION OFFICER EXHORTS POLL STAFF TO ATTEND THEIR DUTY DILIGENTLY Ferozepur, May 13, 2019: Giving a last chance to absent poll staff, the deputy commissioner Mr.Chander Gaind has ordered them to appear at the deputy commissioner office on May 14 by 11 am. Failing to which, an FIR will be registered under section 134 of the Representation of the People Act. On April 30, Taking a serious note of employees/officials being absent from election rehearsals, deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Mr.Chander Gaind today had ordered the election cell to issue show cause notice against the 250 erring staff members who had skipped their election rehearsal and also ordered to serve these notices through the police department. Divulging the details, the deputy commissioner said that no officials will be spared for callousness in the poll duties, adding that he said that those employees who would not appear on given chance an FIR will be lodged against them under the Representation of the People Act. Election Duty was a national duty and any sort of callousness on part of the officers/ officials in performing this duty was unwarranted, undesirable and intolerable, Mr. Gaind said. He further added that it was our responsibility as government officials to carry out our election-related duties diligently. For the ensuing Lok Sabha elections on May 19, around 4800 poll staff has been deployed on various duties by the district administration and the final rehearsal of poll staff will take place on May 15, 2019. He exhorted the poll staff not to abstain from election duty as this was the most important duty in any democratic setup and we all must come forward to perform our duties zealously.
