`Leadership Development Program for Academicians and Administrators in Higher Education Institutions’ initiated at CUPB
The Central University of Punjab, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, has launched a three-day 'Leadership Development Program for Academicians and Administrators in Higher Education Institutions' at its campus.
Bathinda, June 17, 2024: The Central University of Punjab, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, has launched a three-day 'Leadership Development Program for Academicians and Administrators in Higher Education Institutions' at its campus.
The programme, scheduled from June 17-19, aims to enhance leadership and management skills among educators and administrators across India. Around 42 faculty members and officer serving on top administrative and academic positions in educational institutions from all across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, J&K and Rajasthan are participating in the program.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the watering of plants by Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, and Chief Guest Prof. Anil Kumar Tripathi, Director, IISER, Mohali, setting a symbolic tone for the enlightening journey ahead.
Prof. Anil Kumar Tripathi, the Chief Guest of inaugural ceremony and Director of IISER Mohali, underscored the critical role of visionary leadership in navigating the complexities of modern education system. He underlined the role of innovative approach and determination to utilize knowledge to serve the society in maintaining strong connect among employees and stakeholders, while citing his experiences of working at IISER Mohali, Banaras Hindu University, CSIR-CIMAP and DDU University, Gorakhpur. While highlighting the attributes of leadership, Prof. Tripathi stated that a great leader has an ability to understand their people, adapt to changing trends, and drive their teams towards common goals. He articulated the need for academic and administrative leaders to be proactive and innovative to foster academic excellence, inclusivity, and resilience in higher education institutions.
In his presidential address, Prof. Tiwari spoke on 'Nurturing Leadership in Higher Education Institutions,' stressing the crucial role of leadership in shaping educational futures, leveraging demographic dividends, and contributing to PM Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He outlined that great leaders have the ability to influence people to accomplish mission, inspire commitment and improve the organization. He referenced path-goal theory to discuss key leadership traits such as directive, supportive, participative, and achievement-oriented. Prof. Tiwari expressed optimism that the workshop would equip young academicians and administrators with essential skills and strategies necessary to address the dynamic challenges and opportunities in today's educational landscape.
The opening day of this workshop also featured special lecture sessions by two distinguished personalities Prof. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Nagpur, and Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar. In the first lecture held after inaugural session, Prof. Metri emphasized the significance of 'Academic Leadership and Management,' highlighting the key skills and qualities required for effective leadership, including strategic vision, decision-making capabilities, and the ability to inspire and motivate others. He also addressed the challenges faced by academic leaders in today's rapidly changing educational landscape and shared best practices for managing these challenges. During the second lecture session, Prof. Ahuja delivered an inspirational talk on 'Fostering Research Environment,' stressing the importance of creating a supportive and stimulating research environment within academic institutions. He discussed strategies to encourage and sustain a vibrant research culture, including providing adequate resources, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and promoting innovation. He highlighted the role of leadership in motivating researchers, securing funding, and establishing partnerships with industry and other research organizations.
At the outset, Prof. Ramakrishna Wusirika, Dean Incharge Academics, welcomed the participants and highlighted that aligning with the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) and fostering innovation is crucial for the growth of the education system. Prof. Monisha Dhiman, Director IQAC, introduced the program theme.
Prof. Sanjeev Thakur, DSW, gave introduction of Chief Guest and distinguished guests.
Prof. Sandeep Kaur, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, gave formal vote of thanks. Over the next two days, participants will have the opportunity to engage with these and other esteemed academicians during interactive sessions and discussions. The valedictory session of this workshop will be held on June 19, 2024.
