Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre and the Department of Sociology, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a lecture on “Ambedkar’s Vision for Indian Constitution”, delivered by Professor Rattan Singh from the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, on Thursday.

Chandigarh, April 20, 2023: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre and the Department of Sociology, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a lecture on “Ambedkar’s Vision for Indian Constitution”, delivered by Professor Rattan Singh from the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, on Thursday.  This event was held to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.  Professor Rattan Singh highlighted instances from the life of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar that molded his ideas.  His vision of a casteless and classless society, according to Professor Rattan Singh, was based on existence of the principles of equality, liberty and fraternity in society.  Glimpses of Babasaheb’s ideology are inherent in the Indian Constitution.  Babasaheb also upheld the idea of Constitutional morality.  His views on a sturdy agriculture and industry for free India were underscored. Babasaheb’s strong stance for the empowerment of women can be noted in his writing and as President of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly he made arduous efforts to improve their condition in the Indian society.  

Lastly Professor Rattan Singh highlighted the political and social differences between Babasaheb and Mahatma Gandhi as well as Babasaheb and the Indian National Congress.
