Chandigarh April 29, 2024: The Department of Biochemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated International Day of Immunology on Monday highlighting Wellness during Aging through Immunology. The program was supported by DBT-Builder grant sanctioned by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India.
Chairperson Prof. Amarjit Singh Naura shared that the aim of this celebration is to raise awareness pertaining to importance of immunology and immunological research in the fight for lifelong health maintenance and individual well-being. The theme this year was Immunity and Ageing: Navigating the Science of Aging and Immunology.
The speakers addressed the issue through their talks. Dr. Deepak Sharma, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh spoke on How immune is our immune system from ageing? He highlighted the differences in the immune system of young and old and the requirement of keeping the immune system healthy for healthy ageing.
Dr. Rupinder Kaur, CMO, Panjab University Health Center, Chandigarh delivered a talk "Understanding Human Immunology to improve public health". She discussed the role of diagnostic tools, immuno modulation therapies, personalised medicine and preparedness for emerging pathogens. She reiterated that education and awareness are pivotal in encouraging a healthy lifestyle and hence lead to healthy ageing.
