Chandigarh, July 29, 2024: The Department of Statistics organized a Lecture to mark 25 years of Victory in battle field of Kargil “Kargil Vijay Diwas” in the Seminar Hall, Department of Statistics, Panjab University, Chandigarh on Monday.
Prof. Narinder Kumar, Chairperson, Department of Statistics expressed profound respect and gratitude to the brave solders, who laid down their lives for the sovereignty and integrity of the nation. Brave hearts sacrificed their lives for the nation and fought bravely facing the extreme cold conditions during the 1999 Kargil conflict.
The lecture focused on the Kargil Vijay Diwas which is to honour the valour and pride of the soldiers who took part in Operation Vijay. The lecture further emphasized on Captain Vikram Batra, Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav and Brigadier Khushal Thakur, Commanding Officer of 18 Grenadier. Some memories of the war were part of the presentation. A documentary was also played. At the end of the lecture a quiz was given to the participants.
Two minutes silence was observed to remember the supreme sacrifice made by the brave hearts for the nation and security.
The faculty members and all students of the department participated in the event.
