Left parties protest against price rise and unemployment

Ludhiana, May 29, 2022: As part of the National call by the left parties to protest against inflation and unemployment a protest rally was organised against the Modi government in Ludhiana.

Various speakers addressing the gathering said that the Modi government has miserably failed to curb the sharp rise in prices of petrol, diesel, cooking gas, industrial raw materials, food items and other necessities. After paying homage to the martyrs at Jagraon Bridge, a joint rally was organized by the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist - CPIM) and the Communist Party of India Liberation in which people from different parts of the city and from different sections participated.  The rally demanded that unemployment benefits be given to the unemployed. The government should pay Rs.7500 per month to those who do not have taxable income. Plan urban employment scheme. Increase budget allocation to MGNREGA and increase the wages of its workers. Solve the problems of small entrepreneurs.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said that due to anti-people and pro-corporate policies of Modi government, petrol, diesel, cooking gas and essential commodities prices are skyrocketing which has made life miserable for the common man. Not only this, the prices of raw materials like iron, yarn, cloth etc. used in industrial establishments have gone out of control. That Modi government had in a very clever manner reduced the price of petrol and diesel by Rs. 9 and Diesel by Rs. 7 aftr increasing it by 50 rupees.

These grievances of the people have no effect on the Modi government. Instead of paying heed to the needs of the people the government is out rightly conspiring to divide the society on along communal lines. Those who raise people's issues are being locked up in jails. Unemployment is at its highest in the last 45 years. Our country ranks 102nd   out of 117 countries in the world in terms of hunger. Education and health services are out of reach of the people.

The loans of big corporates are being waived off. With this the deposits of common people in banks are being looted. According to a report by the Reserve Bank, in the last seven years, hundreds of crores of rupees have been swindled in banks every day.

Speaking on the situation in neighboring Sri Lanka, the leaders said that 20 years ago the people had brought this President to power with an overwhelming majority and now the same people are agitating to remove him from power due to rising inflation and unemployment in the country.

The rally demanded that unemployment benefits be given to the unemployed. The government should pay Rs. 7500 per month to those who do not have taxable income. Plan urban employment scheme. Increase budget allocation to MGNREGA and increase the wages of its workers. Solve the problems of small entrepreneurs.

Among those who addressed the protest were DP Maur District Secretary CPI, Dr. Arun Mitra, Chamkaur Singh, M.S. Bhatia, Gulzar Pandher, Kewal Singh Banveet, Ramesh Rattan, Shafeeq Md., Md, Rafiq and Dr. Vinod.
