Ludhiana, August 4, 2018: The Legal Metrology wing of Food and Civil Supplies Department on the directions of Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Punjab conducted raids at the LPG distributors in Ludhiana.

In the exercise that stretched over two days, the teams of Legal Metrology Wing conducted as many as 47 inspections and booked 43 challans under various provisions of Legal Metrology Act and Rules including 5 for short weight, 12 for non verified weighing scale, 5 for non display of verification certificate, 13 for non declaration of Packaged Commodity Rules(PCR) and 8 for not keeping Electronic weighing Scale of specified capacity(50 kg). Besides, compounding was done in 16 cases and Rs. 92,000 was collected as compounding fee, on the spot. The expected compounding fee from the challans is pegged around Rs. 3,24000.

The couple major defaulters include M/s Avtar Flame Ludhiana-1 , M/s Jashan HP Sahnewal , M/s Talwar Gas Service College Road, Ludhiana-2, M/s Sutlej Gas Ludhiana Ludhiana-4 , M/s Jhaj Gas Gramin LPG Vitrak, Hambra ,M/s Talwar Gas Service College Road, Ludhiana-4 , M/s Bee Kay Gas Service Tehsil Road, Jagraon , M/s Sumit Pal Gas Service Sidhwan Bet, M/s Yuvraj Gas Agency, Payal , M/s Akal HP Gas, Payal , M/s Ibadat Indane Gas Agency Khanna and M/s Gian Gas Service Doraha.

Earlier, Legal Metrology in similar exercises conducted surprise inspections at the eating joints on Railway Stations, Bus Stands and the roadside Dhabas followed by raids on sweets shops, statewide.

Talking on the issue, Mr. Bharat Bhushan Ashu said that the present inspections are prompted by the need to protect the common man from being bluffed. He said ,” This is just the beginning, similar inspections would continue throughout the year; in fact would now be a regular phenomenon.”
