Letter to the Editor: Female’s safety and security be made intact

By Simmi Mohindru

Recent cases of rapes in Haryana have really put the females and specially girls in dilemma in regard to their safety and security.

Different visions and versions are being pouring it that the marriageable age of the girls be reduced, as this is not the remedy. There is news that the female ratio is declining from the males, what are the reasons? What reasons are responsible?

The Government is talking about women empowerment, there are other social evils such as dowry , female foeticide , literacy that are responsible for the declining ratio of females .The need is to create an atmosphere of literacy drive among the females where they are taught how to counter the menace of anti social activities specially in case of rape .The females should also refrain from wearing those clothes of Western culture and rather wear the Indian traditional clothes .

The cases of rape are the incidents of national shame and these should be deplored with strong words. The Union and State Governments should enforce the law against rape strictly and also direct the judiciary to announce the verdict in the case of rape within a stipulated period and the punishment should be an eye opener for the males and teenagers.
