Like industries, there should be economic package for educational institutions too: JAC
JAC represents 1650 colleges and universities in Punjab
Chandigarh, November 11, 2021: At the invitation of the Federation of Private Schools and Associations of Punjab, the Joint Association of Colleges (JAC), which represents 1650 colleges and universities in Punjab, has supported the Save Education, Save Punjab campaign.
As per JAC's estimate about 55 percent of the total students of Punjab are enrolled in private institutions and these private institutions have provided employment to seven lakh families. All these organizations are self-financed and do not get any financial support from the government.
JAC's Chief Patron Satnam Singh Sandhu said that educational institutions should also get economic package from the government like industries. JAC President Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal said that it is surprising that mothers of children have free bus travel but students have to pay tax (Fare) on buses.
JAC had an emergency meeting in which All the Vice-Presidents and office bearers participated except Co-Chairman Dr. Anshu Kataria . In the meeting, apart from commercial electricity bills, taxes levied on institutions were taken seriously and it was decided that under the leadership of Dr. Jagjit Singh Dhuri, President of Federation of Private Schools and JAC, the Save Education, Punjab Bachao campaign would be initiated on November 13. In which all colleges and universities will participate.
On this occasion Dr. Jagjit Singh Dhuri said that the Federation and JAC want to tell the Punjab Government through this demonstration that most of the employment generating organizations should be exempted from all types of taxes and the employees working in these organizations should be insured for Rs 5 lakh. He further said that on November 13, all the buses of the institutions will be parked peacefully on the state and national highways.
