Liquor shops can stay open only till 11 pm and hotels/restaurants till 11:30 pm

Ludhiana: While exercising his rights under section 144 of CrPC 1973 (Act No 2 of 1974), the Commissioner of Police Mr Rakesh Kumar Agrawal has issued various ban orders for areas falling under Police Commissionerate Ludhiana.
    He stated that it has been observed that some hotels, restaurants, dhabas, liquor shops remain open till late night. He said that anti social elements take advantage of this and sometimes even cause brawls there, that leads to fear in the minds of public and creates law and order problem. The Commissioner of Police has banned that liquor shops cannot stay open past 11 pm and hotels/restaurants/dhabas past 11:30 pm.
    Similarly, the Commissioner of Police Ludhiana has also banned the movement of heavy vehicles (including three wheelers, four wheelers or those having more than four wheels) that are used for ferrying passengers, which is illegal and is a violation of the Motor Vehicle Act. He said that it can also lead to dangerous situations where the human life can be put into danger and sometimes even accidents take place. Exercising the powers vested under Section 144, Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, the Commissioner of Police has imposed a ban on the use of heavy vehicles for ferrying passengers. These orders would be in force for next two months.
    In another order, the Commissioner of Police has directed the city residents to inform their nearest Police Post regarding the details including photographs of their tenants in houses, or maids, drivers, conductors, security guards, gardener, or any person hired etc that are employed in all houses, schools, colleges, business establishments, private organisations, industrial houses etc with immediate effect. He said that it has come to his notice that some such persons commit crime and that is why, people should inform the police about them. These orders would be in force for next two months.
    The Commissioner of Police has stated that it has come to his notice that some vehicles having sand do not cover it properly, due to which the sand and water falls on the road when the vehicle is moving. He said due to this, accidents take place sometimes. Exercising the powers vested under Section 144, Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, the Commissioner of Police has imposed a ban on plying of vehicles carrying sand if uncovered and has directed the vehicle owners to ensure that the vehicles are properly covered. These orders would be in force for next two months.
    Exercising the powers vested under Section 144, Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, the Commissioner of Police Ludhiana has also banned the sale of helmets without ISI mark. These orders would be in force for next two months.
    In another order, Mr Agrawal has stated that a large number of private schools are operating in the city and these schools use buses to ferry students from their houses. Some drivers and conductors on these buses as well as the non-teaching staff in schools are from different districts or states. While keeping in mind the safety of students, orders have been issued to all private schools to ensure that complete details, including photos, of the drivers, conductors, non-teaching staff as well as other staff employed by them with the concerned Police Station/Police Post immediately. These orders would be in force for next two months.
