Chandigarh, February 25, 2025: "Literature is powerful tool to bring social change", said Dr. Ravinder Kaur, Department of English, Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) at Department of Economics, Panjab University, Chandigarh, today. She was delivering a lecture, on Dalit Literature and Activism: Rethinking Social Development from Below, organised by the Department of Economics, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

In her engaging lecture, Dr. Kaur emphasised the role of literature in sensitising students across disciplines to the issues faced by marginalised communities, particularly Dalits. She highlighted how literature fosters awareness and social change. She stressed that economic policies must integrate social dimensions, as overlooking them results in incomplete and inequitable frameworks. To illustrate these ideas, she recited select poems from Punjabi Dalit literature, showcasing how literary expressions function as resistance and identity assertion.

Dr. Smita Sharma, Chairperson of the Department of Economics, underscored the importance of interdisciplinary dialogues for making research more socially relevant.

The lecture, attended by approximately 100 students, concluded with a thought-provoking Question and Answer session.
