‘Live Shera' spreads voting awareness in SBS Nagar
DC urges voters to set new record of best voter turnout on Sunday
Nawanshahr, February 19, 2022: Taking new initiative to motivate the voters of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district for setting up historic voter turnout in the Punjab, the administration has roped in a team of artists whose two members dressed up as ‘Live Shera’ dressed in bright Punjabi bhangra suit wearing face lion masks would go in the public places, markets to spread awareness on voting in large numbers.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Vishesh Sarangal said that the drive is part of the ongoing Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program. He said that in 2017 assembly elections, the district had recorded 77.40 voting percentage and 66.72 voting percentage was registered in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Sarangal called upon voters for their maximum participation in the voting as their active involvement would strengthen the democracy. He said that our state is witnessing its biggest festival of elections after five-years and everyone must not only come out for cast their vote but would also encourage others for voting.
He emphasized that even one vote can make a great difference so every voter must cast his or her vote in the right manner without any pressure.
