"Lohri Dheeyan Di" Celebrated At Jagraon

"Lohri Dheeyan Di" being celebrated at Jagraon in Ludhiana district.

Ludhiana, January 11, 2016: Jagraon MLA Mr SR Kler has said that the Punjab government is committed for empowering the girl child and that is why several new initiatives such as Mai Bhago Vidya Scheme, Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute, and several others, have been started by the Punjab government.
Taking a step further, with the efforts of Mrs Ranbir Kaur Kler, wife of Mr SR Kler, "Lohri Dheeyan Di" was celebrated in the grounds of Government Senior Secondary School for Boys, Jagraon.
While speaking on the occasion, Mr SR Kler said that this function has been organised for creating awareness among the masses to save the girl child. He said that the main aim of this function was to respect and honour the girl child, which has always remained the policy of Punjab government.
Around 900 women including those who excelled in academic, sports, cultural and social activities during the past year were felicitated by the organisers. 
Mrs Ranbir Kaur Kler said that our society should understand that girls are no less than boys and they have proved their mattel in all walks of life. She said that is why "Lohri Dheeyan Di" was organised in Jagraon town for the first time and that from now on, it would remain a regular feature.
A cultural function was also organised on the occasion.
