Lohri mela starts at district administrative complex
Products of self help groups to be sold during mela
Ludhiana: With an aim to promote self help groups and to ensure that their products reach the masses, the District Administration has started Lohri Mela in the District Administrative Complex, here. This event would go on in the District Administrative Complex Ludhiana till January 13, 2020, and has been organised under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mrs Amrit Singh.
Assistant Project Officer Mr Avtar Singh informed that different self help groups being run under National Rural Livelihood Mission and with the support of Education department, would participate in this Lohri Mela. He said that products such as teddy bears, woollen clothes, pickles, jams and jellies, bags made of cloth, jaggery, paintings, pillow covers, pictures, punjabi jutti, shawls, foot mats, namkeen, pyjamas, different eatables, would be sold in this mela.
He informed that the National Rural Livelihood Mission is being run successfully in three blocks namely Ludhiana-1, Ludhiana-2 and Sidhwan Bet of district Ludhiana. The self help groups participating in this Lohri Mela include Shanti, Nawi Soch, Global, Jeet, Sarbat Da Bhala, Guru Kirpa, Guru Nanak, Sukhman, Satguru Kabir and Param. All these self help groups are located in the above mentioned three blocks of district Ludhiana.
Mr Avtar Singh has appealed to the residents to attend this Lohri Mela in large numbers and encourage the self help groups.
