Lohri of 101 baby girls celebrated at Samrala

Samrala (Ludhiana): Under the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative, Lohri of 101 baby girls was celebrated at Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Office, Samrala. This function was organised by the Department of Social Security and Development of Women and Children, in which Samrala MLA Mr Amrik Singh Dhillon was the chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal was the guest of honour.
ADC (Samrala) Mr Jaspal Singh Gill, ADC (Jagraon) Mrs Neeru Katyal Gupta, Mrs Pritam Arora, Mr Jagmilap Singh Khushdil, Mrs Reefa Bhatti (all three Judges), SDM Miss Geetika Singh, PCS officers Mr Baljinder Singh and Mrs Sonam Chaudhary, DSP Harinder Singh Mann, Tehsildar Mr Navdeep Singh Bhogal, Naib Tehsildars Mr Jaswinder Singh and Mr Vijay Kumar, CDPO Samrala Mrs Inderjit Kaur, CDPO Mr Ram Bhajan Singh, besides several others were also present on the occasion.
On this occasion, a “path” of Shri Sukhmani Sahib was held, after which a cultural function was organised to celebrate Lohri of girls. Jaggery, peanuts and Rewari’s were also distributed to the gathering. Baby Kit suits and other necessary items of baby girls were also distributed to the 101 baby girls.
While addressing the gathering, Samrala MLA Mr Amrik Singh Dhillon and Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said that it is need of the hour as well as our duty to ensure that the social evil of female foeticide is stopped completely. They said that it is our duty to take proper care of the baby girls and provide them with ample opportunities to succeed in life. They also appreciated the efforts of SDM Office Samrala and Department of Social Security and Development of Women and Children for organising this function.
