Lok Sabha Polls 2024: Cash, Drugs, Liquor and others worth Rs 37 crore seized; DEO Sakshi Sawhney reiterates commitment to hold free, fair and transparent elections
Committed to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the district, the district administration has seized cash, drugs, liquor worth over Rs 37.19 crore since the imposition of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) on March 16, 2024.
Ludhiana, March 23, 2024: Committed to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the district, the district administration has seized cash, drugs, liquor worth over Rs 37.19 crore since the imposition of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) on March 16, 2024.
The seizures by surveillance teams include cash Rs 2.96 crore, drugs to the tune of Rs 25.93 crore, liquor worth Rs 5.75 crore, precious metals worth Rs 2.46 crore and others.
District Election Officer (DEO) Sakshi Sawhney said that a total of 126 flying squad teams comprising a magistrate, cops and vehicles mounted with camera providing real-time feed to the control room, are keeping close vigil across the district.
District Election Officer also advised the residents to not to carry cash of Rs 50,000 and more without supporting documents while the election code of conduct is in force.
Expressing her commitment to ensure transparent, free and fair elections in the Ludhiana, DEO Sawhney said that holding elections in a peaceful and transparent manner is the top most priority of the administration and every effort is being made for accomplishing this gigantic task without any kind of hindrance. She said that elections were one of the biggest exercises in the country when every section of society is observing the administration for efficient conduct of this herculean task.
DEO Sawhney said that no one would be allowed to disturb the poll process during the elections and any person who would try to create disturbance in the elections would be dealt sternly as per the provisions of law.
