Ludhiana, November 5, 2022: Ar. Sanjay Goel, one of the directors of Ludhiana Smart City Limited and Chairman of the Indian Institute of Architects Punjab Chapter has requested Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia to look into operating the upcoming new airport at Halwara in Ludhiana District immediately, as not only the people are suffering, but businesses are also taking a hit because of this inconvenience.
In a communication to the Union Minister today, Ar Goel has stated that the people of Ludhiana and surrounding areas have been looking forward to their airport for more than the last 20-25 years.
Adding, he said that Ludhiana, which is proudly known as the Manchester of India, is a big industrial city located in the center of Punjab. Ludhiana is known for its hosiery products, bicycles, and other industrial parts worldwide. Many decades back only Ludhiana in Punjab was expecting an airport, but now the airports at Bathinda and Mohali have come up and Ludhiana is still waiting for its own.
He said the AAI started an alone flight from Ludhiana to Delhi a few years ago, but unfortunately, that has also stopped operating now. “On one hand Ludhiana is an upcoming smart city with positive changes happening everyday, and on the other hand its people are still waiting for its airport, which is a huge necessity at this point for approximately 90-100 lakh population in about a 100 km radius.”
He hoped that the Union Minister would take immediate action for the upcoming smart city of Ludhiana.
