Jalandhar, November 20, 2018: Lovely Professional University (LPU) students commenced their winning campaign at the North Zone Inter-University Badminton Tournament (Women) 2018, being held at indoor sports complex at LPU campus. LPU played its first match with a 2-0 win against Cluster University Jammu. LPU team played aggressively from the start of the match and won straight sets.
LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal congratulated the team for its excellent performance and forwarded best wishes for the next rounds of the championship to ultimately lift the coveted trophy. LPU Sports In-charge Dr V Kaul informed that it is a joyous moment for all at LPU by seeing players performing well and winning the match comprehensively against a strong side. All players are buoyant and ready for the next matches.
As per the proposed schedule of the Association of Indian Universities’ Inter University Sports Board of India, LPU is hosting the tournament from 19 to 24th November 2018. A total of 34 Universities across the zone had sent their entries in the women section for competing in this sporting extravaganza. International referees and other officials are streamlining the competitions under the guidance of AIU observer. The matches are being played on league-cum-knockout basis at four courts of the newly built sports complex of the university. All players and officials are staying at LPU Hostels.
