Jalandhar: Lovely Professional University (LPU) is currently ablaze with festivity and zeal as it commemorates the Paris Olympics 2024 on its campus. Despite the geographical distance from the event, the spirit of celebration and pride resonates strongly among the students.

The campus is alive with various engaging games, activities, and live streaming sessions, all of which have ignited fervour and jubilation among the students. LPU has ensured that the accomplishments of Indian athletes, including the remarkable victory of the Indian hockey team, are celebrated right at the heart of the campus.

In a historic feat, the Indian hockey team (8 players from LPU) scripted a magnificent victory by defeating Australia 3-2 at the Paris Olympics, securing a coveted spot in the quarterfinals. This triumph not only signifies a momentous milestone but also marks India's triumphant return against Australia in the Olympics after a remarkable 52-year hiatus.

A grand screen is set up where students and visitors congregate to witness live streams of the Indian players' matches throughout the day. Post-classes, students and faculty alike gathered around the screen, sharing camaraderie as they cheered on the LPU representatives competing on the global stage.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, LPU set up a selfie booth featuring LPU students in Olympics including Javelin player Neeraj Chopra, Indian hockey stars, and other prominent athletes, allowing students to capture their support and admiration for these sporting icons. Various games and activities have further energized the students with enthusiasm and joy for the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and founder Chancellor of LPU, extends his warmest congratulations to all students on this remarkable achievement. Mr. Mittal expressed his delight at the outstanding performances displayed by our students in the previous matches and conveyed hopes for medals in the final rounds.

LPU has achieved an extraordinary milestone by becoming the second largest contingent globally after Stanford University (USA) in the Paris Olympics 2024. An impressive 24 students from LPU have earned the prestigious opportunity to represent India on the global stage. This year, the Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics comprises 117 athletes, with LPU athletes accounting for a remarkable 21% of the overall team.

Among the notable LPU athletes are Neeraj Chopra, the gold medalist in the men's javelin throw at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu. The Indian Hockey Team members from LPU include Captain Harmanpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Shamsher Singh, Mandeep Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Manpreet Singh, Gurjant, and Jarmanpreet Singh. Other athletes include boxers Lovlina, Jaismine, and Preeti; wrestlers Anshu, Nisha, Vinesh, and Antim Panghal; and shooter Arjun Singh Cheema. Additionally, athletes Kiran Pahal, Paramjeet, and Vikash, rowing Balraj Panwar and archers Dhiraj Bommadevara and Tarun Deep Roy.
