LPU emerged as only single University among 16 Indian States and UTs’ Universities to bag 10 Medals at National Youth Fest-2021

Jalandhar: Inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, four-Day long 24th National Youth Festival (NYF) 2021 was organised virtually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. Here, massive winning contributions made by the talented students of Lovely Professional University (LPU) enabled Punjab State lift Winners’ Trophy of the fest. Punjab State is followed by Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Kerala and more sequentially. Closing and award ceremony of the fest took place in the presence of Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju (Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports) and Smriti Zubin Irani (Ministry of Women and Child Development). 

Out of the total 23 winning positions declared for Punjab State, LPU students won ten illustrious positions in their name to lead the State a top victory list. Moreover, LPU emerged as the only single university among other participating universities of the country to bag maximum medals including 5 Gold and 5 Bronze. In comparison, all other participating universities could not win more than 4 gold medals individually. Even a single state or UT could amass only 9 medals in comparison to 10 won by LPU.
Congratulating the promising students of the university, LPU Chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal applauded them for the glorious participation and shared that LPU students’ different teams also displayed exemplary spirit of national integration, communal harmony, brotherhood, courage and adventure-the elements focussed primarily in the annual national fest. Mr Mittal reminded all that only a few days back the talented LPU students commenced the new-year with a grand victory on state level; and, now displayed their dexterity on national level to bring glory to the university.

LPU teams won gold medals in the activities of film contemporary dance (solo); street play; group play; creative writing; and panel discussion (in a team). Bronze medals are won in film contemporary dance (group); design-traditional; stand up comedian act; poetry writing & narration; and panel discussion (in a team).

This year, the theme of the fest was ‘YUVAAH’-Utsah Naye Bharat Ka, which celebrated and acknowledged the energy of new India by providing a platform to the youth to showcase their talent. The fest was carried out in three parts and covered genres like music, dance, regional, theatre, visual arts and more. Celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of youth icon Swami Vivekananda, NYF is an annual massive gathering of youth with various activities including competitive ones.

In fact, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, has been organizing National Youth Festival (NYF) since 1995 with an objective of providing a wide platform to young men-women of the country for bringing them together to showcase their talents in various activities. Creating a mini-India, it makes youth interact and exchange their social and cultural uniqueness. Due to COVID-19, this year, the Ministry had decided to go online and let each state bring their talent to the fore.
