LPU Honored Olympic Wrestler Nisha Dahiya at 15th Annual Athletic Meet; Roshni Yadav and Eswar Won Best Female and Male Athlete Awards

Jalandhar,  March 6, 2025: The 15th Annual Athletic Meet at Lovely Professional University (LPU) was a thrilling celebration of sportsmanship and athleticism, bringing the campus to life. The four-day event was organized by the School of Physical Education. A standout moment of the day was the presence of Nisha Dahiya, India’s top wrestler and an LPU student, who inspired everyone with her resilience after a shoulder injury at the Paris 2024 Olympics. In recognition of her dedication, LPU awarded Nisha a ₹5 lakh cash prize for her remarkable determination.

The Chief Guest of the event, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder-Chancellor of LPU, declared the meet open after lighting the ceremonial flame. The ceremony was further graced by Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro-Chancellor of LPU, and Er. H.R. Singla, Director General of LPU. Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal commended all the participants for their commitment, determination, and teamwork, emphasizing that sports not only develop physical fitness but also significantly contribute to mental well-being. Dr. Mittal reiterated LPU’s continued support for sports development, stating that events like the Annual Athletic Meet are designed to help students showcase their talents, learn discipline, and pursue sports as a career.

The meet featured nearly 100 track and field events, captivating students with the Olympic-level skills of the participants. Athletes from all 26 schools at LPU competed fiercely, aiming to secure the coveted championship title and medals for their schools, as well as individual recognition. The competitive spirit and enthusiasm of all participants were on full display throughout the event.
At the award ceremony, the School of Physical Education claimed the Overall Winner’s Trophy for securing the most medals. The Mittal School of Business was named First Runner-Up, while the School of Computer Science and Engineering took home the Second Runner-Up award. The Best Athlete Awards were also presented, with Roshni Yadav from the School of Physical Education winning the Best Female Athlete award and Eswar from the School of Civil Engineering receiving the Best Male Athlete award for outstanding performances.
