LPU lifted AIU’s Overall Judo Championship Trophies in both Male and Female Categories
Occasion was Association of Indian Universities’ All India Inter-University Judo Championship (Men & Women) 2021-22 held at CSJM University in Kanpur
Jalandhar, March 30, 2022: Lovely Professional University (LPU) has lifted Association of Indian Universities’ (AIU’s) Overall All India Inter University Judo Championships-2021-22 in both male & female categories. The championships were hosted at Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, in two phases. Nearly 500 female and 600 male judokas from about 183 universities across the country had participated in the competitions held under different weight categories.
Performing strongly, LPU’s male players won 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal; whereas, the female won 2 gold, 2 Bronze and one 5th position. All ten of these students have now qualified to further participate in the national competition-“Khelo India”.
LPU Pro- Chancellor Mrs Rashmi Mittal congratulated the winners and invoked them to keep on striving for other higher-level competitions for making self, university and country feel proud of them.
For men, competitions were held in seven weight categories: 100+ Kg, -100 kg, 90 kg, 81 kg, 73 kg, 66 kg and 60 kg. Under these, LPU students Deepak Mishra (81Kg), Rahul (73Kg) and Hrithik(-100Kg) won gold medals; Mani Sharma won silver; and, Jagtar Singh won bronze medal. LPU lifted the men championship trophy with an overall score of 19; whereas, Delhi University got second place with 9 scores; and, Kurukshetra University remained at third place with 8 scores.
For women, competitions were also held in 7 weight categories: +78Kg, -78Kg, 70 Kg, 63 Kg, 57Kg, 52 Kg and 48Kg. Under these, LPU students Tekhelambom Inunganbi (70Kg) and Unnati Sharma (63Kg) won gold medals; and, Amisha Kale (+78kg) & Antim Yadav(48Kg) won bronze medals. Tekhelambom, who hails from Manipur, has also been declared the best Inter-University Judoka among all women participants. Also, 52 Kg category student Priyanka got fifth position.
All of the winners unanimously share: “We are proud to be on the top victory podium. It could only be possible due to the best mentorship and facilities meted out to us at the university.”
