LPU organises SUTAKS to explore Societal Impact of Technological Advancements

Jalandhar; June 24, 2024: Lovely Professional University (LPU), through its Department of Sociology in the School of Liberal & Creative Arts (Social Sciences & Languages), recently hosted the International Conference on Sociological Understanding of Technological Advancements in Knowledge Society (SUTAKS). The conference provided a platform for scholars and experts to discuss and analyse the impact of technology on society and knowledge systems, fostering a deeper understanding of the sociological implications of technological progress.

Distinguished speakers Prof. Maitrayee Chaudhuri, President of the Indian Sociological Society, New Delhi, Prof. Paramjit Singh Judge from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and Prof. Abdul Matin from the University of Meghalaya, Shillong graced the event.

The conference featured a range of sessions, including keynote speeches and two technical sessions for research presentations by internal and external participants. The discussion focussed around contemporary issues such as the impact of digital technologies on social relationships, the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of work, and the challenges and opportunities presented by the increasing use of automation in various industries. The event facilitated the exchange of ideas and research findings related to the intersection of technology, society, and knowledge advancement.

Pro Chancellor Colonel Rashmi Mittal highlighted the significance of the conference, stating, "The conference focused on exploring the sociological implications of technological advancements and how they are shaping the way we live, work, and interact with each other. This has been immensely impactful for the students and staff of LPU, who have gained valuable insights into the changing needs and necessary improvements in our society."

Sociological understanding encompasses the cause-and-effect relationship among various aspects of society, including technology, family, marriage, gender, health, and the environment. The knowledge society, as an outcome of post-modern thought, is characterized by the production and consumption of knowledge, where technology plays a crucial role.
