LPU & SPS Apollo Hospitals organised fourth Nursing Conference

Jalandhar, October 29, 2014: In order to educate the nursing students of the state about management of emergency and resuscitation cases, LPU School of Pharmaceutical Sciences & SPS Apollo Hospitals organised 4th Nursing conference at LPU campus. Near 500 nursing students, doctors, nurses, paramedics of the state participated in the conference. Important lectures on ‘Conduction System Anatomy’; ‘Cardiac Rhythm Disturbances’, ‘ECG Basics’, ‘Chain of Survival’ , ‘Basic Life Support’ and more were delivered by senior emergency care practitioners. Experts in the fields of cardiology, resuscitation, emergency and intensive care; Dr. Vikas Bansal, Dr. Anupam Srivastva, Dr. Kanwalpreet Sodhee, Dr. Colonel Neera from SPS Apollo Hospitals educated would- be- nurses for their required role. Prestigious nursing institutes of the state including Sri Guru Ram Das College of Nursing, Amritsar & Hoshiarpur; Guru Nanak College of Nursing, Mohali; Bhai Ghanaiya Ekta School of Nursing, Moga; Royal Institute of Nursing, Batala; Desh Bhagat Institute of Nursing, Mandi Gobindgarh actively participated. Students from these schools were also trained through live demonstrations, presentations and interactions. Participants got benefitted from exposure to new and novel topics, shared methods of improving care & underwent vital training. State level inter-college nursing quiz was also organized for student-teams from different nursing institutions. The first, second and third runners up teams were awarded with cash prizes of Rs 11,000, Rs 5,000 & Rs 3,000 respectively. Congratulating the organising team members from both LPU & SPS Apollo Hospitals, LPU Pro Chancellor Rashmi Mittal said: “We are happy to note that this important event brought together emergency care practitioners and nursing students for required awakening in the field of resuscitation and intensive emergency care. This conference is certain to cater to the future needs of the industry.” Mittal further said: “In fact, there is great requirement of specialised nurses, courses and related training programs for this all. Feeling the urge of the situation, our university is successfully running a special B.Sc (Physician Assistantship) program in collaboration with SPS Apollo Hospitals Ludhiana. This program bridges the gap between physicians and nursing professionals. After getting theoretical knowledge in different medical courses, students are further taught about clinical medicine, surgery, radio-diagnosis, critical care and more in a hospital set-up. This program has gained wide recognition from multi-speciality hospitals, and ample job opportunities are also available for such students.
