LPU unveils Website for One Million Euros’ (almost Rs Nine Crores’) European Union Project

Jalandhar: Last year in December, Lovely Professional University won the project of Rs 9 Crores from the prestigious European Commission to lead a consortium of 11 universities to research Sports Education in India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia under the Erasmus plus project. Since then LPU and all its partner universities are engaged in numerous meetings to shape up the project and recently LPU, which is the lead partner university for this project, unveiled the website for the project through a virtual ceremony. More than 30 distinguished participants from the European and Asian partner institutions witnessed the virtual launching ceremony of the website. The website name is on the project SPIRIT and one can access the website from the following link (http://spirit-eu.org/).

This project is aimed at capacity building in the field of sports, Physiotherapy and physical education through research and community development. Out of the 1,005 applications that the project received from across the globe, LPU became the only university from India to be designated the lead coordinator. A newly launched website will prove to be an important medium by reflecting the project’s works to the world. The website will also provide information related to non-communicable disease, sports and physical education, and transparently reflect the SPIRIT project’s achievements. 

Additional Director at Division of International Affairs and the Head of ERASMUS’ SPIRIT Project at LPU, Mr Aman Mittal congratulated the consortium for completing the first task of dissemination under the project. Mr Mittal shared that showcasing the works being done, through the newly launched website to the world, will certainly make a huge impact in partner institutions and partner countries- India, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka. Mr Mittal also suggested all team members be committed to the project and keep on updating the website as far as possible and stay engaged with the international community.

EACEA (European Education and Culture Executive Agency) appointed Project Officer Delfino Eugenio; Director, Research and Innovation at LPU Prof Dr Dharam Buddhi; Dy Director Supriya Mathews; Project Coordinator Dr Suresh Mani;  Project Associate Amber Anand and more also attended the launch ceremony. Mr Eugenio revealed his happiness on the approach and engagement of all the partners in the virtual study visit, despite pandemic hurdles. Explaining the purpose and importance of the website, Coordinator Mr Damien Hanet of EduLab emphasized that the website will serve as a one-stop destination for all people involved in the project.

The European Union’s Erasmus+ programme is a funding scheme to support activities in the fields of education, training, youth and sport. Erasmus+ funds academic mobility and cooperation projects that involve partners from "Programme Countries" and "Partner Countries" throughout the world. Erasmus+ supports activities that are closely matched with the EU's priorities for cooperation policy with partner countries and regions. This is the third time in a row that LPU has won the Erasmus grant. The other universities which are a part of the consortium led by LPU include Bogor agricultural university, Syiah Kuala University, Indonesia, Universitat Politecnica De Valencia, Universidade De Lisboa, International School of Business & Research, Bharati Vidyapeeth University, and Edulab educational exchange.
